Agwé is loa of salt waters, the seas and oceans. His companions are the siren (mermaid), the whale, the fish, and the crab.
The traditional vever of Agwé shows a sailing ship in profile, fore-and-aft rigged, with the legend "Immamou" (spelled in various ways) on the side. Though the subject of considerable debate, it appears likely that this is derived from the Arabic word for "holy". To enhance the symmetry of the design, I have painted the ship head-on and square-rigged, and surrounded it with Agwé's traditional allies. The traditional sky of stars, with its surrounding scalloped circle, I have transformed into a life-preserver entwined with twin ouroboros serpents, Alchemical symbols of the cycles of the Universe.
