Ājña is the "Third Eye" chakra, at the centre of the forehead. Some map this chakra to the pineal gland deep in the brain, identifying it as the "Third Eye" of tradition, despite older sources that definitely locate the "Third Eye" in the forehead. The pineal gland has in recent years been linked to the production of the hormone melatonin, secreted in a circadian rhythm apparently driving the sleep cycle, and synchronized by the organism's exposure to daylight.
