Art purchased at the Auction (whether auction items or not) will be available for immediate pickup, perfect for holiday gift-giving. The Riverside Gallery is on the first floor near the main entrance of the Cambridge Community Center, 5 Callender Street, Cambridge, MA, just a block from Western Avenue at the corner of Howard Street. <a href="http://www.ejbarnes.com">E. This Sunday is the opening reception of the annual Small Works Show at <a href="http://www.facebook.com/RiversideGallery">Riverside Gallery</a> in Cambridge, MA. Illustrator, cartoonist, mandala designer, and animator <a href="http://www.ejbarnes.com">E. J. Barnes</a> has several pieces, new and old, in this show, so come on along. The show is already up for viewing in the Riverside Gallery at the Cambridge Community Center at 5 Callender Street, Cambridge. It will be up until 8 January 2012 (closing with a reception that afternoon) but don't wait too long, for this is a chance to buy reasonably priced and reasonably portable art for the gift-giving season. The opening reception is Sunday, 20 November, 24pm. All members of the public are welcome and refreshments will be served. E. J. hopes to see you there!

After the success of <a href="http://www.masscomics.com/art-show">Comic Art New England</a>'s debut at Lesley University in conjunction with <a href="http://www.masscomics.com">M.I.C.E.</a>, the show has gone on the road to <a href="http://www.artinstitutes.edu/boston">New England Institute of Art</a> in Brookline, MA. The opening reception for the second leg of the tour is this Thursday, 3 November, 68pm at <a href="http://www.artinstitutes.edu/boston/student-life/gallery-303.aspx">Gallery 303</a>, which is at the 303 Boylston Street building of NEIA. The building is on Route 9 in Brookline, between Brookline Village and Brookline Hills stations on the Green Line. In case you missed the Lesley University exhibit, this show contains over 100 pieces of work in various media from a wide variety of comic and cartoon artists from all over New England, including many from the <a href="http://www.bostoncomicsroundtable.com">Boston Comics Roundtable</a> and beyond. <a href="http://www.ejbarnes.com">E. From August through mid-September, E. J. will be one of several artists participating in a group show at <a href="https://www.facebook.com/RiversideGallery?sk=info">Riverside Gallery</a> in Cambridge, titled "50-100-150: A Hot Summer Show". The exhibit consists of 50 pieces on display in the Riverside Gallery at Cambridge Community Center at 5 Callender Street, only a block from Western Avenue in Cambridgeport. All art is for sale at $100 each. There will be an opening reception (with the customary refreshments) on Sunday, 7 August, 13pm. The show culminates in a 150-minute final sale session on Sunday, 18 September, 5:30&151;7pm. This will be the only period during which sales will be made. For more news on E. It's time again for Cambridge Open Studios, and E. J. Barnes will once again open her home studio to the public for this annual event. E. J. is part of the Central group of artists whose studios are open this coming weekend, 14--15 May, Noon--6pm. This year E. J. will feature recent work, including some of her comic pages. Her syncretic mandalas will also be on display. E. J.'s studio is at 18 Chalk Street in the Cambridgeport section of Cambridge, Mass., between Pleasant Street and Magazine Street. This year's Cambridge Open Studios weekends are preceded by a Preview Exhibition of small works by 50 participating Cambridge artists (including E. J. E. J. Barnes's Gallery Notes - 2 gallery receptions this weekend

This weekend, E. J. will be attending the receptions for two group shows in which she has art on display. "No Hearts, No Flowers" is currently up at the University Place Gallery in the main atrium at 124 Mount Auburn Street in Cambridge. This is near Harvard Square, roughly opposite the Harvard Square Post Office. The reception is on Friday, 11 February, 5:30--7:30pm. This is an opportunity to pick up some affordable art for Valentine giving. The show is on display through 24 February. If you want to know how both those statements can be true, by all means come to the reception, enjoy the refreshments, and talk to one of the roaming "sales reps" (of which E. J. will probably be one). E. J. has two pieces in the show -- two pieces that are, arguably, a good deal snarkier about relationships than most of the other work you'll see. The reception runs from Noon to 1:30pm and refreshments will be served. The show runs through the end of February; the gallery is open Monday through Friday, 9am--2pm, and Sundays Noon--4pm. J. has included in this show includes both gag cartoons and some comic pages, including a page from "Mealtime," a story she drew for the Boston Comics Roundtable's 2010 anthology Inbound #5: The Food Issue. Due to new tenants in the building, Space 242's "Good vs. EEEEVIL!" group show is now scheduled to CLOSE this Friday, 4 February. The gallery will be open 6--8pm, and an Artists' Talk will take place at 7pm. E. J. will be one of the artists speaking. RSVP is NOT necessary to attend the Artists' Talk. Space 242, "Boston's Lowbrow Destination," is a gallery on the 2nd floor of the Weekly Dig building at 242 East Berkeley Street in the South End. The adjoining parking lot is dedicated to the Medieval Manor, please so do not park there; the Broadway stop on the Red Line and the East Berkeley stop on the Silver Line are the closest T stops, while the #47 bus runs through the same neighborhood. Space 242 plans to seek new lodging in the coming months. But right now, come see it in its current location while you can!
